Why Angel Number Tattoos Go Way Deeper Than a TikTok Trend

Angel number tattoos are more than just the latest thing on social media. They offer deep spiritual meaning and personal expression for a new generation.

The relationship between tattooing and social media can be an uneasy one. Platforms like TikTok and Instagram help artists reach new audiences and inspire trends, but they can also dilute the art’s deeper meaning, turning personal expression into fleeting viral content. Take angel numbers, for example…

Angel numbers are sequences believed to carry profound messages from the spiritual realm, often seen as signs of guidance and protection. These mystical numbers originate from various spiritual traditions, including the New Age movement, mysticism, and numerology. They are viewed as divine messages offering valuable insight and direction in life. However, the surge of angel number tattoos on social media has generated mixed reactions.

"I hear a lot of people saying that these tattoos are ‘basic’ or that people are only getting them because they’re trending," says tattoo artist Eve (@evejaynegracetattoos) from Old Bank Studio in Manchester.

While some may view angel numbers as just another TikTok trend, their spiritual significance is far deeper. For many, these numbers are powerful reminders of intuition, protection, and personal growth. They aren’t limited to any single belief system. People from all walks of life use them to seek guidance, feeling connected to higher powers or spiritual realms.

Angel numbers also blend nicely with the trend for minimalist or small tattoos, which have surged in popularity.

"I’ve been doing a lot of sparkle tattoos or really tiny finger tattoos, which can be a challenge, but I enjoy them," says Eve. "I always print out a few sizes and stencils, so we can try different placements if people are unsure. It takes a few extra minutes, but it helps them visualise it better."

A deeper meaning for a new generation

For young people, especially those drawn to TikTok trends, these tattoos represent more than a fad. In a world full of uncertainty, angel numbers can offer comfort and guidance. They symbolise control, support, and direction. While some might dismiss angel number tattoos as just another trend, their deep personal significance continues to resonate with a generation searching for meaning in a chaotic world. And at the end of the day, tattoos are a form of self-expression; who are we to judge?

As Eve says, "I think we should just let people get whatever makes them happy without judging them for it, even if it is just because they’ve seen it on Instagram."
