People understandably want to know a little about their tattoo artist before they book. With this in mind, we thought we'd have a quick get-to-know-you sesh with Stories & Ink resident hand poke tattooist, Sam McCabe aka @sammy_pokes. 

Hey Sam, can we get a quick intro?

Hello! My name is Sam McCabe, I'm working at Stories and Ink (Falmouth), which is the most gorgeous studio, with a lovely group of women. I've been tattooing for a little over two years, and I absolutely love it. 🖤 I consider my style of tattooing as delicate, detailed, client led handpoked pieces of art. Most of my work is custom. I love bringing a client's idea into fruition. I always ensure my customers get their designs in advance of the appointment so that changes can be made if needed; it has to be perfect for their body.

What type of work are you looking to take on? 

I'm inspired by the natural world, and would love to do more botanical/leafy pieces.

Describe the local tattoo scene in 3 words.

I'd describe the local tattoo scene as professional, passionate and awesome.

What's your favourite tattoo on you and the meaning behind it (if any)?

My favourite tattoo on me is my pair of magpies on my shoulder. I've always been stupidly superstitious of them, so I have two for joy, one for each of my kids.

What's your best piece of tattoo care advice?

The best aftercare advice I can give is just to follow your tattooist's advice to a T, they want the best result for you, and will have done the same to heal their own tattoos.

Where are you happiest?

I'm happiest when I'm out walking my dog Maple, especially when the sun is shining. If we're at Sennen Cove, even better.

Something not many people know about you?

I never feel like I quite fit in. 

Someone you find inspirational?

A person I have always admired and adored is David Bowie. He was unafraid of expressing his artistic self, inspired millions, and didn't give a toss what people thought of him.

What is something that gives you hope?

Early spring flowers always fill me with hope.
